[Phishing]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unfortunately scam phishing emails are on the increase again, with a reported 74,743 scam emails referred by taxpayers to HM Revenue &amp; Custom\u2019s (HMRC\u2019s) dedicated phishing email account in the last 6 months \u2013 a significant increase on the same period in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Many people are now aware of the dangers of unsolicited emails; however, with the increasingly realistic and often feasible examples being dreamt up by cyber fraudsters it is certainly getting harder to tell the difference. Below is a recent example of the detail and design of these emails &#8211; the colours and typeface are startlingly similar to HMRC\u2019s actual website.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodmanjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/phishing-example.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-900 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.goodmanjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/phishing-example.jpg\" alt=\"phishing example\" width=\"620\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.goodmanjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/phishing-example.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.goodmanjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/phishing-example-300x154.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a>By clicking on the link and \u2018claiming your tax refund\u2019 you will be directed to a fake website and encouraged to enter your personal bank details.<\/p>\n<p>Please remember that HMRC will <strong>NEVER<\/strong> contact you by email regarding a tax refund but will always send a letter by post. If you receive one of these emails please forward it onto <a href=\"mailto:phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk\">phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk<\/a> before deleting it.<\/p>\n<p>Phishing emails account for billions of pounds worth of fraud every year.
